I was 8 years old and my Dad told me about Dale Earnhardt and his son Earnhardt Jr. He said that they would be the team to beat. I was very happy to see my 3 favorite drivers dueling for the lead on the final lap. When Dale crashed I was scared but happy that Mikey and Dale Jr. got the 1-2 finish. My dad told me later on that Dale had passed away. I was sad but was very happy to see D.E.I. back in full uniform at Rockingham. There is a void that wil never be filled but i'm sur Dale appreciate it if we keep on racing in his memory and in the memory of the other drivers have passed away doing what they love.   Full Name: Nick Atkins Home Page: None. Date and Time: 8/30/2005, 4:50 AM Comments: my deepest condolences to you & yours,(earnhardt family) from me & mine,(mcalister family)... we are truly sorry for the loss of this man.he was as close to hero for me as it gets.myself & my son(michael jr.),were watching the race & had decided we could safely slip out to walmart to purchase some of our guy(# 3 )collectables.it was while looking at toys that we were rudely interrupted by a man who seemed to be in a hurry,he was grabbing anything & everything he could get his hands on.i was not able to walk away from this chance to teach my son another one of lifes lessons ,as gentlemen . when i asked the man,what do you think your doing? sir.. he then stood, faced me & the boy to begin telling us what had happened to d.e.sr.. i then asked him to return all merchandice so we could choose the items that we wanted! we rushed home to get all information.....dale sr.s last race was also my(michael sr.s)last race... i cannot watch the races anymore. so, on that, once again ,i'm really sorry for your loss. also, i own 1-1985 SS monty carlo,black w/red stripes,i have had this (his car) for 12 years.even in my darkest hours the monty is still there,everything else of mine is gone!everything..but not my car. We were coming home late that night from Texas and heard the news on the radio. Unbelievable, I remember thinking how could that be possible. The only racer (besides Lil E) that I had ever watched. In fact he was the only reason I watched Nascar. But Lil E is living up to the legend, and I proudly say I still watch because of Lil E and DEI. I now follow all of their cars. However, I was just as unfortunate to be seated just outside of turn four at Daytona in February of 2001 to see the dismal end. I've dedicated my basement racing pub which took me four months to build in his memory. I just "opened" it on 12/31/04, and the site to its virtual cousin is listed above. Dale SR was my inspiration. I dont race, obviously, but he taught me to never give up on what I loved, even if it were to take my life. He showed me that you need to do what makes you happy. He was an incredible racer and he was good at what he did. He is still my favorite racer even though he is no longer on this earth. He is the best in my heart, #1, hes probably racin in heaven and looking down on Dale Jr, helpin him, protecting him. He will always be in my memories and prayers. I was a very true fan to him. My dad, my mom, my borhter, and I would sit on the couch and chairs and watch him race. We loved watching him use his talent and show it to the world. He was amazing! I use to sit there and watch stunned at some of his races. I was only 11 and when I heard he died, I cried. It was one of the saddest days of my life. My mom was in love with Dale. She said how handsome he was and how much she wanted to meet him. It was a terrible loss in the racing industry. I never knew him, never met him, but he seemed like a great man and im sure he was. Now hes in heaven with the lord watching over his children and hes truely missed! In my heart, there will never be a racer like Dale and no one could ever compare to him and how awesome he was to just race his heart out. To tell the story of a man you never knew but in your heart felt you may have known him your whole life. Simple but true, when my sister and brother in law attended the Daytona 500, the year Senior won, they had pit passes, and my nephew Keith being only 6 years old, already had a love and desire for a man he had only seen on T.V. Yet, after the race that year, my Nephew ran upto Dale Sr. and Dale picked him up and off he carried him toward his trailer. Rubbing his head and letting him know, the feeling and compasion this man had even for the littlest of fans. This is a memorable moment in my nephews life, that he will never forget and neither should Dale's wife Theresa or Dale Jr. As, he may already have those littlest fans waiting in his wings. I remember watching my first race which was the 1994 Daytona 500 and the car that that stood out straight away was the black #3. He didn't win that day but in my heart and mind I knew that one day he would. Ever since that day I was drawn to the sport of NASCAR. I remember when He won and Hollywood could not have scripted his career any better. One of the great many moments I remember was at Talledaga when crashed and the race was stopped for a while. Once they restarted the race I seen the #3 with most of its front end off doing happy laps. He even let some of the other drivers who were also taken out drive it untill it was black flagged. Even though he could not win that race I just wanted the cameras on him. I am a die hard ford supporter but when it comes to NASCAR its Earnheardt or nothing. I never got to see the 2001 Daytona 500 but 3 months later when I found out what happened I was shellshocked. To this day I still ask myself why did Dale Sr have to go? I've watched a few NACAR races since then and Its true what everyone else says. Nascar is missing a special something and that special something is Dale Earnheardt Sr. Even the people that know nothing about NASCAR know who Dale Earnheard Sr is. My husband passed away 5 years ago, and my 9 year old son remembers how much Daddy spoke of Dale. My son and myself lived in North Carolina for a short time and we lived in North Carolina at the passing of Dale Earnhardt. I remember how hard the both of us wept when we found out. My son said that he believes that "Daddy finally got to meet Dale, cause now they both are in heaven". To this day, almost a year later, my son still crys when he hears that song "The Dance". We now live in New York, and even though NASCAR is not big up here, my son still has a "Dale Earnhardt" room. Posters and trading cards which he has rapped in plastic to protect them. He moved all the #3 cars out of his toy box and has them sitting on dressers and staged around the room, and no one is allowed to play with them. Hearing him tell stories of the differant races was a thrill when I was young. 3 Years ago while at MIS in Michigan in June my father passed away from a long battle with cancer. At the "exact" time we got the call on the cell phone to let us know he was gone while sitting in the bleachers duing time trials we heard an engine start and a car come out on the track. It was a Black #3 (Dale) who made one pass around the track and then pulled back in. What a omen. Thinking back at the time it was almost as a tribute to an old stock car driver that had passed. What timming and what a memory. Dale reminded me so much of my father and every time I saw him on the track afterwords I would think of my dad.
